The British Mass Spectrometry Society (BMSS) has for several years provided summer studentships which enable young scientists to work for several weeks alongside experienced chemists in university departments and thus gain valuable research experience at the start of their careers. In many cases these studentships are co-sponsored by both the BMSS and other scientific bodies, and in recent years NWAD has provided sponsorship for students undertaking summer studentships at universities in our region. In 2012 NWAD provided sponsorship for Sophie Rawthore's studentship at Liverpool John Moores University and for Rebecca Mackenzie's studentship at Manchester University. The BMSS summer studentship scheme was suspended in 2013, but was reinstated in 2014 when NWAD provided sponsorship for a studentship at Bangor University.
