Herman Potgieter is Professor of Analytical Chemistry at the Manchester Metropolitan University, Professor Extraordinaire at Tshwane University of Technology and an Honorary Professor at the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa. He joined the committee in 2013 and is a member of the organising committee of the Manchester heat of the young analysts competition. He previously served on the RSC North Region Committee in South Africa, the South African Chemical Institute Committee (SACI – Southern Gauteng Region), the South African Academy for Science and Art (SAAWK – Chemistry Division), the South African Spectroscopy Society and the South African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy Board. Herman’s research spans a wide range of interconnected areas in analytical chemistry, materials characterisation, water treatment, industrial minerals, polymers and composite materials, extractive metallurgy and corrosion investigations of particularly duplex stainless steels and dental alloys.
