Gerry Davison MSc PhD MRSC (1936 - 2003)

The Gerry Davison Memorial Award (£500) was established by NWAD and the Speciality Chemicals Sector of the RSC Industrial Division in memory of Gerry Davison, who gave many years of outstanding service to both these groups in addition to his valuable work on behalf of the RSC Benevolent Fund. In recognition of Gerry's enthusiasm for encouraging youngsters to follow a scientific career, and particularly one involving analytical chemistry, the award is made to the school from our region which finishes in the highest podium position in the national final of the Schools Analyst Competition.

Every successful organisation needs someone who is committed and contibutes fully to the activities and wellbeing of that body. Gerry was such a person and, throughout his many years of involvement with the RSC, he was held in very high esteem by members of NWAD and the Speciality Chemicals Sector. He was the Honorary Secretary of NWAD from 1977 until his sudden death in 2003, and in 1996 he received the AD Distinguished Service Award in recognition of his major contributions to the Division at both regional and national levels. Gerry also played a major role in organising several conferences and symposia for the Speciality Chemicals Sector and in compiling and editing the publications resulting from these meetings.

The Gerry Davison Memorial Award provides an enduring tribute to our former friend and colleague who willingly gave so much of his time to RSC affairs, particularly those associated with our region.
