Elsa Faria-Billinton is Research Associate and Honorary Lecturer at the University of Manchester. She joined the committee in 2005 and is a member of the organising committee of the Manchester heat of the Schools Analyst Competition. Elsa currently lectures on the newly created MSc course in Analytical and Separation Science and carries out research on the application of nanotechnology techniques such as atomic force microscopy, optical tweezers and Raman optical tweezers to study single cells; in particular, to study the changes in mechanical and spectral properties of cells with progression of diseases such as cancer.
